Panicked at the prospect of an untimely death before I’d even tasted the gingerbread man, I leapt out and stuck my head under a rushing shower in a desperate bid to flush away the fatal microorganisms. Slightly embarrassed by my possible overreaction, I consulted with the only staff member I could find: the cashier.
